I'm revealing my best trick to easily and cohesively styling your family for your Knoxville family photography session. Figuring out what to wear for your family photos can be a struggle. Here's a quick and easy way to style your family so they look cohesive without being overly matchy.

HOW TO EASILY STYLE YOUR FAMILY FOR YOUR KNOXVILLE FAMILY PHOTOS

STEP 1: MAMA, DRESS YOURSELF FIRST!

If you've done family photos before, you have probably realized that somehow it's always you who can't find something to wear in the end!

My easy solution is to dress yourself first.

I promise, dressing yourself first is not selfish. You booked the session, you're styling the family, you're doing the work to make these family photos happen. Therefore, you get to pick your outfit first. Think about what looks good on you, what you feel good in, what colors you like, etc. If you feel good in the outfit you choose, you'll love your photos so much more!

Keep in mind, you have full access to my client closet if you want it!

Once you've made your decision, style the rest of the family around YOU!

STEP 2: ADD A PRINT

If your outfit has a print on it, great! Choose outfits for the rest of the family that tie into the colors in your print. If your outfit is a solid color, find an outfit for your spouse or kids that has a print that matches your outfit. Build out from there.

STEP 3: DON'T LET ANYONE MATCH EXACTLY

We're looking for a cohesive look, not a matchy-matchy one!

Consider a vest or jacket for your husband to create layers. Instead of a basic shirt, add a Henley shirt or a collard shirt with buttons. Consider adding a little dress for your daughter or overalls for your son. You can even bring in one more print if it compliments the one you already have. You can also play with different textures of fabrics for some added variety.

STEP 4: WHEN IN DOUBT ADD A NEUTRAL

If you're struggling to keep everyone within the color scheme, consider adding in a neutral color such as white, black, beige, denim, navy blue, or blush. This gives you a bit more variety to work with while keeping things cohesive.
